Drought brings water conservation to Cinco Southwest MUDs

Drought conditions in the area have forced some municipal utility districts in Cinco Ranch to implement water conservation measures.

“While some homeowners have been asked to comply with voluntary water conservation measures, other MUDs are under mandatory conservation measures, punishable for violations. Residents should take careful note of which MUD their property falls under, so as to avoid confusion.

Cinco Southwest districts are under mandatory restrictions; residents and business owners should have received a direct notice via mail from Severn Trent Services shortly after June 2. Properties in the Cinco Ranch master district #MUDs Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 14#, however, are only asked to voluntarily restrict water usage, as urged by public signs posted throughout the area.”

Cinco Ranch Wins HBJ Landmark Award

Cinco Ranch has won the Houston Business Journal’s 2011 Landmark Award for Residential Development, with judges citing the Katy community’s 20-year track record and recent acquisition of 492 acres for expansion as key factors in the win.

“Landmark projects are those that continuously improve the look, feel and image of Houston,” says HBJ Publisher John Beddow in a written statement. “Our panel of six judges based its discussions and decisions on questions such as, ‘What was the impact of the project?’”

The HBJ noted that with 817 new-home sales in 2010, Cinco Ranch led the Houston area in new home sales during a challenging economic year. It also reported that Cinco Ranch first opened in 1991 as a 5,000-acre community and has expanded several times to keep up with demand. The purchase of 492 acres in 2010 increased Cinco Ranch to 8,092 acres and provides land for 1,200 additional homesites.

The Landmark judges also cited the success of LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, a 34-acre town center filled with national retailers and local boutiques. LaCenterra’s developer, The Vista Companies, is planning a second phase that will include Class A office space and loft apartments.

“As Cinco Ranch celebrates its 20th birthday and the grand opening of its new model home village this spring, we deeply appreciate the recognition bestowed by the HBJ Landmark award,” says Heather Gould, marketing director for Newland Communities, developer of Cinco Ranch.”

New Home Price Report Shows It’s a Great Time to Buy says  Bob Stahl, Guest Writer, Realtor.com.   “The most recent S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Indices was released on Tuesday and the news wasn’t as optimistic as we would like but not altogether surprising either. The S&P/Case-Shiller monthly report is the leading measure of U.S. home prices and on Tuesday, they reported that – in their 20-city composite – housing prices fell 1.6 percent from their November 2009 levels. Sixteen of the 20 cities in the index showed a year-over-year decline and 19 of the 20 metros showed a decline from the month prior (October 2010)  However, the composite indices remain above their spring 2009 lows.”
