West Houston Jazz Festival – Cinco Ranch High School – 4/29 & 4/30

Don’t miss the West Houston Jazz Festival at Cinco Ranch High School.  Katy ISD will host the 3rd Annual West Houston Jazz Festival and the Katy Guitar Fest. Attendees can expect to see an incredible array of jazz performances, as well as a variety of arts and craft vendors.

Big Band and Jazz Combos from nearly every high school will perform – as well as a special performance by the Katy ISD All-Star Jazz Band. This year’s featured group is the Stan Kenton Alumni Band, made up of musicians from the late, great big-band director’s 1956-1978 bands.

The Stan Kenton Alumni Band will perform on Saturday, April 30. Ticket information and a full schedule of performances are listed at www.westhoustonjazz.com.

‘The Katy ISD Police Department will join forces with members from the Houston Drug Enforcement Administration during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day to collect potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. This initiative will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2011. Katy ISD will have two locations this year. The south location will be Roosevelt Alexander Elementary located at 6161 S. Fry Rd., and the North location will be Sundown Elementary located at 20100 Saums Rd. Both locations will be manned by Katy ISD Police Officers.’

AUSTIN — The state Transportation Commission on Thursday granted the Texas Department of Transportation authority to begin design work and negotiating contracts to build a key segment of the Grand Parkway. The unanimous vote did not, however, authorize funds to start work on Segment E of the tollway, which would link the Katy Freeway to the Northwest Freeway, just west of Fairfield. ‘The Grand Parkway project is an important project for our region and our state,’ said state Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands. ‘Having a loop that passes around Houston, whether it’s the third or fourth loop depending on where you start counting them, … will help reduce congestion and facilitate economic development.'”
